In FY 2003, 20,136 applications were received requesting approximately $2.5 billion in funding. Of these, 15,000 were determined to be in the competitive range and were evaluated by technical evaluation panelists. The number of applications received by program category and the total funds requested is summarized below. Update on 2003 (Aug. 16th 2004): Staff are processing year-end awards using the funds negotiated out of other 2003 awards, de-obligations, and declinations. So the numbers below reflect the first wave of those awards. Staff estimate that they will also have approximately $6.0 million more in unused administrative funds (they have already used about $20.0 million of admin money for grants). Staff have $700,775,000 in the pipeline for grants to date (note that the guidance and Notice targeted $680 million), staff estimate another $6.0 million in awards from unused admin dollars and have earmarked $27.5 million (awarded $27.368 million) for fire prevention and safety. Total $$$ for grants = $734,135,000. Total appropriation = $745,125,000. Percentage of appropriation that went to grants = 98.5%! That's less than 1.5% was spent for administering the grant. Show me another Federal Agency or a State Agency that can beat that record. Un-believable. EMS: 216 apps for $14,145,120 (Fed-share); 67 awards for $4,145,676 (Fed-share). Ops: 13,888 apps for $1,108,345,377 (Fed-share); 6,924 awards for $496,329,830 (Fed-share). Fire Prev: 429 apps for $24,760,261 (Fed-share); 294 awards for $14,077,649 (Fed-share). Vehicles: 5,603 apps for $932,859,544 (Fed-share); 1,379 awards for $186,220,876 (Fed-share). Total apps: 20,136 for $2.08 Billion (Fed-share). Total awards (to-date): 8,664 for $700,774,031 (Fed-share).
For FY 2002, of 19,595 applications totaling approximately $2.2 billion in total project costs, 9,200 were determined to be in the competitive range and were reviewed by technical evaluation panelists. As of January 27, 2003, 5,314 grants totaling approximately $335 million had been awarded. The number of applications received and awards made per grant program category are illustrated below.
In FY 2001, USFA received 31,295 grant applications from 18,915 applicants. The total funding requested was
approximately $3
billion. Of the 7,500 highest scoring
applications that were deemed in the competitive range, 1,855 grants totaling approximately $92 million were awarded. The awards made by grant program category for FY 2001 are summarized below.
