National Fire Service Resource Guide

The National Fire Service Resource Guide is a one-stop reference source designed to provide fire and EMS departments with quick information regarding topics of importance to the fire and emergency services. The Guide includes a compilation of available resources and tools that departments can refer to concerning each topic, as well as tips and guidance to help departments in their initiatives.

The National Fire Service Resource Guide covers the following topics:

Grassroots Advocacy
Grants and Support
Retention and Recruitment
Media and Public Relations
Line of Duty
Training
Health and Safety
Public Education Materials
Fire Service Awards
NVFC Membership
Additional Resources

Departments are encouraged to print a copy of the Guide and place it in a convenient location to provide quick and easy access when they need to find information and resources for the department and personnel. Development of the Guide was supported by VFIS and Provident Agency.

Join National Seat Belt Pledge Campaign To Wear Seat Belts While Responding. On April 23 2005, firefighter Christopher Brian Hunton, a 27 year old member of the Amarillo Texas fire department fell out of his fire truck responding to an alarm.

High Tension Cable Barrier Systems

As you know, high tension cable barrier systems are beinginstalled in
many areas of the state to prevent cross-over collisions. The Cable Safety System (CASS) is manufactured by Trinity Industries (
http://www.highwayguardrail.com/products/cb.html). The tension of the cable varies with the ambient temperature, but it is safe to assume that it will be under approximately 5,000 to 8,000 pounds of tension.
